rote learning is not understanding
The fact that generative ai could create what some considered as undergraduate level essays is an indictment of undergrads, and not praise of innovation in ai.
If it can statistically predict the content of these essays, it brings into the question the value of what has become the rote learning of ideas.
We have exhausted what was once a deep and meaningful intellectual exercise.
