content creators are rewarded for unoriginal work

while watching a video by van neistat, he mentioned that it doesn’t matter if he has 8 die hard fans on youtube because that won’t make money.

it occurred to me that that just as discussion generally trend towards popular opinion, so does media content.

if this is true, and originality is not being rewarded, might we see the scope of irregular and interesting work narrow?

let’s hope the weird people are always out there doing their own thing.
