gen ai arrests your opportunity to learn

when you start up a game called “the witness”, you are met with what looks like an unsolvable puzzle. the point is that it should be unsolvable at your current level of understanding. as you progress through the game, you pick up more knowledge of the rules. this happens slowly, but feels like a natural progression. eventually, you end up with enough knowledge to finish that “impossible” puzzle.

the point here is in any area of knowledge, there is also a natural progression. you pick up skills along the way, that eventually you forget you have even learned.

using ai to solve your problems arrests your opportunity to learn. eventually you will be in a position where it can’t help you; like for new, novel or very specific problems. you won’t have the necessary skills to even know you could have solved the problem.

what mental “gyms” will be have to brew up in the future to deal with out of shape brains?
